Found my lost snake!

seren Feb 23, 2008 02:02 AM

Hi all,

Several of you offered helpful tips and words of encouragement to me when I lost my snake in a bathroom vanity:
http://forums.kingsnake.com/view.php?id=1476118,1476118

After 10 days on her own, she was found crawling in a paper bag of clothes waiting to go to charity. The paper crinkling sound made her presence known.

A little cold, she's now warm, safe, and fed back in her enclosure.

Thanks again to all those who posted.

Very cool!

I'm glad to hear that you've located your lady - and even happier to know that you found her _before_ you brought that bag to the local charity organization. I'm sure the "little old ladies" who sort through that stuff wouldn't be expecting a python!

You got that right.

We had the entire room under lockdown: towels were stuffed under doors and nothing was allowed in or out aside from people who absolutely must use the room.

For anyone else in the situation, I highly support the advice to spread powder or crinkled newspaper along baseboards in order to see trails or hear.

When she started moving around inside that bag, it was around 11 PM. Without the noise of the bag, finding her would have required several more days of turning everything upside down.

The powder outside the vanity enter/exit locations showed no signs of disturbance, so I'm not sure how or when she vacated that area.

Obviously, there was another way in/out that you couldn't see!

She may have even crawled back into the walls, and crawled out again through a space in another room. Or maybe covered her tracks? Who knows!

Congrats on finding her! What a relief!

I like to believe she has super powers, but your guess is probably closer to the truth.

Funny that out of all the places she could have been...she was in a bag of your clothes. Maybe they like us more than we think!

Yes, the wait-game is pretty much all you can do. At the time, it seemed like such a passive approach, but these animals can sure hide well!
