Jeremy Pierce Feb 23, 2008 05:22 AM

Hello everyone. Its been a while since I've been here. Just thought I'd share some pics. This is a whiteside male that I will be using to breed a couple of the red het whitesides this year.

This is another 07 red possible het whiteside. She is a daughter of my "gettysburg" girl. I think she will look like momma when grown.

Jeremy, All of your Pits are gorgeous. That black pine is stunning. He looks like he's 100 percent solid black. My 07 female still has pattern, but each shed she's getting more black.

Thanks Steve. She is solid not a drop of white on her. She is really laid back too. One of my 4 year old sons favorites to handle. Thank you for the kind words. Take care.

great looking stuff man,I have to ask what is a sunrise????

Shannon

Jeremy Pierce Feb 24, 2008 12:21 PM

Thanks for the compliment Shannon. The sunrise is what I've decided to call a project I've been working on for a few years now. Its from the Red bull/Whiteside project. I hatched this guy out last year and he is pretty sweet. While he isn't screaming red, there is no mistaking the reds influence on him. I have a couple of others that aren't quite as intense as him but still different. I haven't really said a lot about him for no other reason than I don't get a great reception when I talk about breeding red to whitesides. I understand why in that no one thinks/thought that the red would have any influence on the whiteside. I now beg to differ. With successive generations I think I can make them even nicer. I have been patient with this project and I'm glad that I have. The by-product of it is getting some really nice red/orange bulls with some large genetic diversity. I believe that red inheritance in bulls is polygenic. Instead of going into a large explanation of that here I invite you and others to check it out here.

http://staff.jccc.net/pdecell/evolution/polygen.html

Polygenic inheritance explains quite a bit about the uncertainty of phenotypic expression within a clutch of red bulls. It also makes projects with red bulls in the equation take forever to come to fruition (at least on a consistent level)! I am sure those that are working on the red albino, hypo, and patternless projects would agree with me. You may get one or two decent colored f1 animals but I doubt much more. Anyway, thanks again for the compliment. I look forward to the discussion that is to come. Take care!
