Price ? on Corn Island Boa

mandk Feb 23, 2008 03:56 PM

I have been wanting one for a while and i found an ad for a local who has one for sale. He is asking $150 for it...is this fair price for a juvi? Im waiting on pics to verify the snake but if it is a corn..what do you think of that price...and its a male. Thanks for the input!

I'd be skeptical. Corn Islands are usually around $1K/Pr.

The guy selling it picked it up from someone selling it as a common boa. He said right away he knew it wasn't a common and took it to his reptile vet. The Vet said it was a Corn island Boa and its a juvi male. Im going monday to check out this snake first hand...i should be able to tell...if you have any pics of juvi corns..please post so i can get a better idea of what im looking for! Thanks

Nothing personal but without documentation, there's no way to tell for sure what kind(s) of boa it is , and the vet should know this without a doubt. I'll just bet the vet said it's "likely" or it "looks like it might be" a Corn Island. And if the vet can't tell, either can you. All you can do is guess.

The one thing you must NEVER do is sell it or it's babies as Corn Island boas. This would deception of the first magnitude. I sure hope you understand this.

No Doubt !
Theres not a Vet in practice that can conclusively ID a Corn Island BCI.
Quite frankly it cant be done by anyone.

Besides some CITES paperwork, you already have them
Ive had (since 04)the equivalent to the "High Red" Corns long before they were ever posted as such.
Understanding Mr Harding had the Honduran Imports LONG before the Corn Isle's popped on the scene pretty well dilutes the Corn Isle exclusiveness.
Understandably it doesn't set to well with Corn investors, but those are the facts none the less.

What ever name is attached their some of the most extreme Central American BCI one could possibly own.

Corn Island for 150 bucks? Extremely unlikely. I think you should stay clear of that one. If you're asking for pics, you don't know what you are looking for. It's probably a colorful Nic. I do agree with what the others are all saying. It just be a pretty little pet snake for 150. I paid 1000 for a pair of neos. Corns Islands are fascinating little snakes. Good luck!

I will let you guys know what i found out tomorrow. I know what to look for and can tell the diffrence between a Nic. and a corn!! Hell...it might be a hypo....if it looks good i might try to talk him down to $125..LOL! Thanks for all the help!

I think there is a good chance it is a Hogg.
ie. not pure Hog Island.

Not For Sure!!!! Its a very dark boa..the tail was almost black...no red at all. The belly was very pink (salmon) with black peppering. He had bright silver eyes...very neat looking boa, but wasn't able to identify. I offered him $100..he is thinking about it. if he accepts i will post pics of him...I was checking out different boas that are dark and i cant come up with anything. Any ideas???
