Don't Let This Happen to Your Collection

PGlazenerCooney Feb 24, 2008 03:14 PM

Once again I got caught up in the unexpected nature of life! I came down with a bad Sinus Infection in January. I finally gave in and went to a Doctor. I was given 10 days worth of a powerful antibiotic. The Antibiotic killed the infection, killed all the necessary "Good" bacteria in my body and then started in on me!!!!! On January 31 I ended up in the Emergency Room of a Hospital. Four days later, as I was being released, the Doctor told me that had I not gotten to him when I did I might be dead!!!!!!! Talk about an attention grabber!!!!! Here it is Feb. 24 and I still can't stand for more than a few minutes without getting fatigued, I can't drive, I have to stay away from people as my immune system is somewhere in deep South Texas (I live in the Hill Country in Central Texas!), and this morning was my first Sunday back in my Pulpit since mid-January!!!! I preached while sitting on a stool! What has this to do with Snakes????? My illness and subsequent recovery meant that my collection had to fend for itself!!!!! My Household consists of a 13 year-old, low functioning, Autistic son and a wife that won't venture into my snake room because she "hates" snakes. Because I didn't have a plan for the possibility of being incapacitated, my snakes suffered and two paid the highest price for my negligence. We have a responsibility to our charges. In the days to come I am going to identify two, maybe three, individuals to train that could step in and take care of my collection in the event of an emergency. And I'm going to be more active in offering my help to others. It's the best I can do.

Shalom,
Pat

Sorry to hear about your illness and your losses... Good luck with getting someone willing to take care of your animals in the event something major happens again. I'm fortunate enough to have a boyfriend who would take care of mine if something happened to me, even though he won't do anything with them now...

Best of luck getting back to health.

Really sorry to hear about your misfortune. Good to see another pastor on here.

I am sorry about your sickness, but I am glad your making a recovery.

As you know, I really love reptiles. But what is important here is you. So you take care of yourself.

I am sure, you will take good care of your animals as you can. Good timing as far as time of year, imagine if this happened in summer? Anyway, I am glad your getting better. Your old friend Frank

Hey FR,
Thanks for the good thoughts. After living through numerous snake hunting/Raptor snagging adventures with you, I'd hate to get taken out by something as mundane as a Drug reaction!!!!!!
BTW--still waiting to see that picture of the Abberant Gopher!!!!!

Ok, Pat, if you don't remind me, how on earth will I remember. I just fed it a few minutes ago, its growing well and looking good.

I have shots when I caught it, but its changed alot, so I want to include it now too.

I am very happy your feeling better. And I am cheerful for that.

good luck and thanxx for the info...my wife is told who to call should I roll over and all....

as for you........try and find some maitake mushrooms and even shiitake,....they help boost the immune system......maitake is given to AIDS and cancer patients by some ......there is a site maitake inc and another fungiperfecti.com......FP (Paul Stamments) sells all kinds of booster meds made from shrooms......expensive .....there are mixed formulas......I never tried them....I have eaten maitake (hen of the woods ) and all......they grow wild here in Pa but only in September......they do sell them at a local GIant supermarket here......you can also look near you for an actual shroom farm .....

good luck.......

Have you ever tried Cordyceps think its mushroom also. I buy the powder online take it before going to gym but havent gotten even a cold since started taking it yrs ago.

The pure powder is dirt cheap lasts months

jyohe Feb 29, 2008 07:46 PM

think I spelled it right

it's a fungus that does fruit into a small shroom.looks like a little orange club sticking out of the ground.or the host body..they grow on dead caterpillers (and other bugs at times)....really....

they grow the mycellium on rye grains I think.....(most shrooms start on rye,not sure about cordyceps)......they process the mycillial mass and don't actually let it fruit ......hard to supply it with that many dead bugs....

it is a good one for immuns systems ,Yes....

turkey tail
cordyceps
reishi
maitake aka. hen of the woods /grifola frondosa
and even shiitake

Chinese wood ears or wood fungus will thin the blood...(they put it in spring rolls.)

......there are more than one places to buy these......or grow your own.......start with fungiperfecti.com to learn more......

......good luck.......and be careful if you don't know what wild shroom you have...if in doubt ,throw it out.....
