Given all the hoopla surrounding ROC in FL and the US Fisheries proposal, is anyone breeding this year or next?
I quit breeding 9 yrs ago, my wife and I figr'd two younguns wuz enuff. I'm worried about my kids being listed on the National COC list (Child of Concern list). "Dear Lord, please don't let 'em do the things I did."
Nah, seriously, I don't know about any breeders in the state of FL but the several I do know haven't held back any breeding plans due to those things. Most breeding projects were already underway.
As for next year's breeding, I don't foresee much of a reason for most breeders to stop or reduce, yet, at least. The first ones to feel the crunch of things like this will most likely be the breeders of "normals" and maybe even average morphs as there will always be a quest for new & hard-to-get morphs.
For this coming season, right now I think things could go either way. The situations could create a better market or fears could crash it. I suspect a decent market, but I think it will also be tight & competitive. I think this year more people will be looking more at the quality of the morph (pattern/colors) instead of just the morph, as in times past.
That's just my prediciton/thoughts. We all know that you can never tell for sure how things like this will turn out. Heck, it could create a buying frenzy where people think about buying everything they can in case there is a ban and prices sky rocket.
Heh, it's beginning to sound more like Wall Street. It's all a gamble, just some are a tad safer than others. But which ones? I dunno.
Take care!

I know several breeders throughout the country to include Florida and everyone I know is operating as business as usual. I think if the ban does pass, sales will increase dramatically prior to going into effect. People will buy what they want because they won't be able to get their hands on it after the ban goes into effect.
