Ultra-Amel in relation to OTHER Morphs??

ZFelicien Feb 25, 2008 03:46 PM

OK, I'm not a Corn Snake guy, but i've become very interested in the mechanism behind Ultra Amel cornsnakes as the relate to other mutations that do not involve Ultra or Amel.

I know what the Ultramels are but what i'm interested in is this:

Has anyone paired Ultra Amels to other simple mutations or 2x mutations (that do not have T- amelanistic in them; Lavender or Ghost for example)

If so:

What would be the result of Ultra-Amel X Lavender

Would the resulting offspring be 100% Triple hets for Ultra, Lavender, and Amel?

OR

Would the resulting offspring be 100% Het Lavender, 1/2 being het for Ultra the other 1/2 being het for Amel (giving you 2x hets essentially?)

Also:
what is the result of Ultra-Amel X Ghost?

would the resulting offspring be 100% Quad hets for Hypo, Anery, Ultra, and Amel?

OR

would the resulting offspring be 100% Het for Hypo & Aney, 1/2 being het for Ultra and the other 1/2 being het for Amel (3x hets essentially???)

Thanx

Ultra & amel are alleles of the same locus (think location on a chromosome) only 2 alleles may fit per locus. You can't have an ultra amel... that would be 4 alleles on 1 locus.

Ultra is 2 ultra alleles, amel is 2 amel alleles, ultramel is 1 of each.

Q - "What would be the result of Ultra-Amel X Lavender"
A - I'll answer this 2 ways: once with ultramel male, once with ultra male

Male = Ultramel (1 ultra allele, 1 amel allele)
Female = Lavender
Offspring predicted as:
------------------------------
50.00% het. Amel, het. Lavender
50.00% het. ultra, het. Lavender

Male = Ultra (2 ultra alleles)
Female = Lavender
Offspring predicted as:
-------------------------------
100.00% het. ultra, het. Lavender

2nd Q - "what is the result of Ultra-Amel X Ghost?"
A- same results as above, just different hets from the female
Male = Ultramel
Female = Anerythristic, Hypomelanistic
Offspring predicted as:
--------------------------------
50.00% het. Amel, het. Anery, het. Hypo
50.00% het. ultra, het. Anery, het. Hypo

For interest, I'll throw up 2 more calculations. This is a fun trait to work with Since it shares the same locus with amel, if the breeding partner is het amel you will get more complicated results...

Male = Ultramel
Female = Lavender, het. Amel
Offspring predicted as:
---------------------------
25.00% het. Amel, het. Lavender
25.00% het. ultra, het. Lavender
25.00% Amelanistic, het. Lavender
25.00% Ultramel, het. Lavender

Male = Ultramel
Female = Anerythristic, Hypomelanistic, het. Amel
Offspring predicted as:
------------------------------
25.00% het. Amel, het. Anery, het. Hypo
25.00% het. ultra, het. Anery, het. Hypo
25.00% Amelanistic, het. Anery, het. Hypo
25.00% Ultramel, het. Anery, het. Hypo

Q - "Has anyone paired Ultra Amels to other simple mutations or 2x mutations (that do not have T- amelanistic in them; Lavender or Ghost for example)"
A - Ultramel lavenders, ultramel bloodreds, ultramel anery, ultramel caramel have been done, I don't have any photos though.

Hope that helps!!
