Ball acting strange. Need advice please

ronald_durst Feb 25, 2008 09:39 PM

I went to go feed my female ball this evening and she started acting kinda strange. She refused food which she never does. Usually she sits in her hide and then when food comes she reaches and grabs it. Now she just kinda sways sideways when i offer the food to her. She'll keep swaying and finally when i leave her alone she'll stop. Typically when i pick her up she'll just sit there with her head tucked in. Now she tries to get away like a garter snake and still swaying side to side. I cant physically see anything wrong except she didnt shed her head or eyecaps on her last shed. I have tried to get them off but with her being so skittish i couldnt really do it. Could that be it?
With the mouse she will just kinda rub her nose on it but not take it. Shes only about 12" long. Anyone got any ideas? Thanks

eyecaps!

soak her
mist her

use saline drops for people with dry eyes and a Q-tip.
I have those long Q-tips on a stick that i use for that kind of thing-- drip the saline drops over her eye and saturate the q-tip and they should come off super easy.

I always soak the snake before i do that
i also grasp them gently behind the head and tuck the body under my arm when i do this-
when i'm done i can hold the body and gently let go of the head-- not been bitten once and always gotten the eyecap

try that and she should calm down--- try to feed her a few days later.

good luck

Soak him/her for a bit so you can take the caps off. I have two green tree pythons that at an early age for some reason always retained their eye caps. Green trees leave a lasting impression when they bite....so I let them do the work themselves.I usually put them inside a large enough deli cup. If your worried about them being in the water too long you can also just soak some paper towels and line the bottom of the deli cup with it. I then put them back in their tubs and let them move around in it over night. by the morning or actually within a couple of hours they come right off. No tape and no figity snake. Give them the proper tools....and they will figure out the rest. Good luck.

Yeah, definitely eyecaps. She's pretty much blind right now. Work on the eyecaps and she'll be fine. Good luck!
