Haven't seen them in years...I used to work for a reptile wholesale/retail business (about 10 years ago) and I ordered clubtail iguanas from florida hoping to get a pair of defensor (once these were the only clubtails that were listed on wholesaler's lists...everything alse was just classified as a spiny tail) and what I got was a shippment of quinquecarinata...boy was I disaapointed at the time. When I asked the importer what these were, he said "club-tails" when I described what I was looking for (at the time ctenosaur classification wasn't so defined) he said "oh I can't get those anymore...point is before that (in the 80's) these "junk lizards," which all of ctosaur were considered, retailed for under $20-unless you had a really big one, which defensor never was or is. Lizard breeding was also in its' infancy-people were breeding snakes and occaisionally turtles in their back yard, but not many lizards. So therefore defensor seems to become nearly extinct in USA captive populations. Some Europeans are working with them, but the only other place I know has/had them is West Coast Iguana there webstie is: http://www.westcoastiguana.com and they have a good article on the species at http://www.westcoastiguana.com/defensor.htm...but whether they still have them, or if they sell livestock, I am not sure...hope this helps, let us know if you find them...its' funny, at 34 years old, after high dollar herps (including cyclura which were once "high dollar"-at least for my budget at the time) and years away, I finally fell in love with the cteno's
