very bad problems with snake shedding...

gumbii Feb 26, 2008 05:35 PM

she's an 07 anery honduran milk snake... i've had her for about three months now... she's eaten before, but about a month ago she stopped eating, and her skin is really really intensly dry... here are the pics...

sorry for the camera phone pics... but it's the easiest way i could put a photo on photobucket without charging my camera, etc....

i did the soak once, i got some shed ease stuff... it says to rub on twice a day, or soak them... but i haven't had time and it got worse... so i'm going to start doing it this week starting today... but it looks really bad... she doesn't want to eat eiter... but i'm not to stressed over the not eating thing... i did kind of chill them down a bit...

but what else can i do...? is this some sort of parasite/disease...? she's gorgeous and comes from the crazy line... i don't want to lose her...

thx...

did she stop eating before or after the cooling? how much did you cool? she looks a little small to be cooling in the first place to me but its kida hard to tell size for sure. she looks underweight/dehydrated. double then tripple check your husbandry, if any stool is produced get a parasite check done on it. try diffrent foods, live, f/t, rubbed on a lizard...and if at all possible get her to a vet!

hanging out under heat lights burns up my brain cells!!

i didn't try to hibernate her out... i just lowered the temp to 76* on the hot side... when i got the snakes from the breeder he said to have it at 88* on the hot side, but i noticed they were all on the cold side of the rack... and some other snakes didn't eat untill i lowered the temp...

she stopped eating right after she looked like she needed to shed... i haven't seen her drink water, but there's always water in her container... i also put a rock in there to help her shed, but nope... i'm thinking about calling a vet tomorrow when i get the chance... but other than that, she still acts very normal... like she always did when i first got her...

her skin feels kind of loose, and folds wierd... could it have been the heat...?

I have a brazilian rainbow that looked that way after eating, too. I use a round, plastic tub with a lid that has a hole cut in the center of it for its water. It liked to soak in that, but it didn't seem to be wanting to soak, either, for some reason. So I started soaking it in warmish water. It perked up, ate, and finally finished shedding. Seems fine now. Might want to try that, using the electrolytes in the warm water soaks.

Good luck!
