why people say a 20g is big enough.

I have a 5yo corn and she is 5ft long.I couldnt imagine putting this large active snake in a 20gal.Yet when giving advice to new cornsnake owners, I see every saying that a 20g is sufficient.
Is this a good idea to tell people that all they will need is a 20g tank when it is barely sufficient?
