Herpstat Pro rave and a probe question

jfmoore Feb 26, 2008 07:35 PM

I just got a Herpstat Pro proportional thermostat last week and am initially extremely impressed. This four-output unit is feature rich and easy to configure - so easy, that I had it up and running four enclosures with different requirements in ten minutes thanks to the clearly-written and well-illustrated instruction manual.

And after years of just not bothering with programmed night drops due to the hassle of extra cords and mechanical timers on other brands of thermostats, I found myself trying out different temperature drops because the Herpstat Pro is so quick and easy to program - a few button clicks and you're done without the need for additional equipment.

Anyway, my main concerns so far are with how rugged both the probes and the base unit itself will prove to be. Since Spyder is new, there isn't much of a track record to go on, compared with, say, Helix. What have your experiences been so far? And specifically, does anyone know much humidity or direct contact with water the probes will tolerate? I was spraying down a cage when I realized that the manual didn't mention this topic at all.

Thanks for your help,
Joan

I have been using my Herpstats for over a year now and I mist my cages daily and I have not had any problems with the probes or the base unit. I like the probes because they can easily be changed (I have not had to), unlike the Helix and Big Apple thermostats. I like the Helix and Big Apple thermostats, but I like the Herpstats more.

Hi,

A belated thanks for the response. I continue to be pleased as can be with my Herpstat Pro; it is a nifty piece of equipment.

That is precisely my experience.

Thanks for the great comments! The probes are water resistant. The sensors are encased in epoxy so they do pretty good. I don't recommend them being left in a water dish for a week but for any misting/ect they will be fine. All the Herpstats are sturdy units and we have a great track record of reliability. We opened business in the 2nd quarter of 2004 and continue to grow with our product line and as a company. Anyone with questions about our products can contact me directly at sales@spyderrobotics.com. I try to browse the forums when I get time away from the shop but its always easier to answer an email. :^)
