Gravid Already??

waspinator421 Feb 26, 2008 07:36 PM

As I was checking on my snakes, I noticed that Leeloo was looking rather large in her hind quarters. I only introduced the male almost a month ago, but haven't seen him interested in her at all. Perhaps he is a sneaky devil.

She looks like she may be gravid, but I can't feel any eggs. Could this possibly be a gigantic dookie? I haven't seen her swell up this much before.

This is my first year with Thayeri, but I bred Cal Kings and Nelson's Milks last year. I remember being able to feel the eggs when they got huge, so this gal has me confused. What do you experts think?

Has the snake passed food several times since hibernation? If yes, I'd say she is swelling up or perhaps fertilized already. My males got the job done in under five minutes most times. Yuo should be able to let eh snake crawl away from you and feel a string of "pearls" at the same time. Generally when I have not been able to feel the "pearls" I usually get slugs. Good luck.

Yeah, she has been pooping fine, and eating well. She refused her food this week, though. I haven't been able to feel the "string of pearls" that I have heard so much about from other people, so I'm not quite sure what that feels like.

Gosh, I wasn't expecting her to be gravid so soon if that is what this is.

Thanks Russ!

sorry I didn't see all the pics the first go around. IMO she is carrying eggs.

Thanks again Russ, I sure hope you're right! Now I just got to get my new incubator up and running!
