BCL Variability & Assuring what U get

jrphd Feb 26, 2008 08:53 PM

Been interested in this unqiue locale for some time. What seems kind of overwhleming is the variability in the patterns and colors of the adult BCL produced, particularly when considering neonates change so dramatically over the first three years. My ? is how can you, or I should say I, the person who hasn't bred these animals for years, make any type of reliable guess as to what a neo will eventually look like? I'm sure parents are a huge factor. I guess my question ultimately leads to, where can I look for animal like the one posted at the outset of Stoeckl's website; dark as night markings with a very light "uncluttered" background? Is that just an incredibly unique specimen?

Jon,

It would be as far as what lines you go into and also as you mentioned it would also be a good idea to look into the parents of the blood line. I know Micah Denton's animals are very nice he works with Hypermelanistic animals as well as Anery, and the traditional normal BCL. His animals are of a Mentzler (spelling) and Doug Matuzac of Boa Basement. Here are two animals I purchased from Micah in 04...they are much larger now. I will get newer pictures soon. The only recent shots I have is of the darker one which I will post here as well. Pardon the pink paper, its much easier to edit paper than it is aspen shavings :P These are Anery Line animals from Micah who IMO produces the best Longicaudas around!

You have a valid point, not all BCL are the same nor the breeders.
Some breed for black and some prefer to repro the black and yellow strains. The anery stuff has taken off and should be something special in acouple years.Easy to spot anery neo's from birth.
Weve chosen to stay with the Harding line BCL which can be traced back to original import stock.

Congrats to you both. You both have gorgeous animals. To the TNK person, looks like that boa is ready to end the photo shoot quickly.

Would the attached BCL be considered an extreme rarity due to the striking light (almost white) and jet black contrasts?

Would it be considered an anery.?

Animals I posted were also anery and looked much lighter as babies than the image you just posted. Probably the difference in the blood line of the animals.

Yeah, that's what I'm talking about. But as illustrated in this thread, not all anery's look the same. Will that animal you posted retain that black/white contrast? Can I ask who produced it?

No real way of predicting BCL,just have to wait them out.
he has been getting much lighter and his saddles are filling in with a very solid black. Those pics were for last summer, updated pics will begin in May/June.
All but one of my BCL were all bred by Bob Harding.

He's on boa-constrictors.com . Click BCL's and then scroll down to the "3 year old" pic.
