Regurgitation?

silver_arctic1 Feb 26, 2008 10:00 PM

I have a pair of R. brevicaudatus. Both ate enthusiastically upon settling into their enclosure a few days ago. But shortly after, I found what looks like a regurgitated meal; it looked like undigested chewed up crickets.

I also found two pieces of stool in there at the same time. I know the female is healthy as she eats regularly with no problems so that leads me to think the male is the one regurgitating, but he seems healthy and moves around and responds normally when I mist the tank. So I guess my question is should I be worried? Do the presence of the two stools indicate that both are healthy and one just regurgitated that time?

I have some NutriBac from past reptiles, should I use some of it on the male?

Thanks in advanced.

Hard to say as you didn't actually see who did what. It could be the cham shot the crix, had trouble swallowing it or didn't like the taste, and spit it out again. Reptiles don't have a sphincter at the stomach to keep food from backing up into their throat. Chams' stomachs are fairly small for the animal's size. They can regurgitate if they are over full of water or food. I'd just watch them, make sure their feeders aren't too large, make sure they are drinking and active, and don't stress them with handling unless one really does show other problems. Trying to give meds to pygmies is very stressful and easy to overdose.

Thank you for your reply. I have since reduced the number of prey items and kept a closer look on them. I haven't found any more regurgitated food and more stool so I'm relieved. =)
