underwater?

new2this Feb 26, 2008 11:06 PM

So,I was giving my 2 1/2 month old beardie a bath in a small tupperware container, filled to shoulder height, and he put his complete body including his head underwater.I couldnt tell if he was enjoying it or if he was panicking ,but I pulled him out .Is it normal for beardies to play around in the water?

I have a few that swim underwater. I bath mine in the kitchen sink and never leave them alone. Pretty much all dragons are OK in water as long as it's the right temp. just sometimes it takes a bath or 2 for them to get used to it.

Yes this is normal, some of my males do that. I had one that used to do it all the time when i gave him a bath. He'd let himself sink down to the bottom of the sink/ tub and just chill there for a minute or two. sometimes I'd freak out and after 30 secs. or so pull him up to the surface but he was always fine. He'd like to sit under the water holding his breath. Some of his sons I have- they like to do this too from time to time, don't worry if they go under water on their own or put their whole head in the water to drink, when they are done they will surface for air. I'm always surprised how long they choose to hold their breath for when my guys do this! It is wierd -but they choose to do it, they must like the feeling i guess..

This is normal.. well for my beardies anyways. I had a male that used to sink down to the bottom of the sink/ tub and do this all the time at bath time. He'd like to just stay there for a min or two and then would surface. I have a few of his sons and they do this too sometimes. I used to freak out and pull them to the surface when they did this but then i got used to it and realized that they like it and they ALWAYS surface. It is kinda wierd to watch though, sometimes my guys will just sit under the water for over a minute and then surface and float. So even if your beardie puts their whole head in and they drink or they choose to sit under the water, don't worry they always surface on their own!
