Did he already buy one, or is he considering one?
Not an Ideal 1st snake.
If he hasn't already brought it home- I'd encourage him to try something else first.
If he already impulsively bought one- he really needs to do his research on line- there is not much info in book form out there. VPI and Nerd both have good care sheets on their web sites. If he is not really dedicated to keeping this animal properly... I'd also encourage him to find it a better home.
It is not brain surgery keeping them, but bloods do require that you pay attention, and be diligent with keeping humidity and temperatures correct. They are pretty susceptable to RI.
If it is captive bred, temperment is probably not a major
problem, though babies can be nippy (as with many animals).
Size- they don't get huge over night. Provided he puts in the time, he'll get to know the animal before it gets to a challenging size to handle.
Feeding is generally not a problem once they are started. They usually have a really strong feeding response... You need to pay attention when you are feeding them...once they get to Juvi/adult size-it REALLY hurts when they get you.
They are really amazingly beautiful animals.
Have your friend come to the forums and do his OWN research... the first step to being a responsible keeper.
Best of luck to you both.
