Bitten by the bug....again.....

Rob Lewis Feb 27, 2008 11:02 AM

A long time ago, in a land far away, corn snakes were the first snake that I ever owned and I have always loved working with them. For various reasons, however, a while back I chose to focus on Kenyan sand boas and I have not kept any corns for about 5 years. This past weekend at Hamburg I could resist no longer. Here is a pic (please excuse the poor quality and the poop) of a female normal that I picked up. I picked up a male, too, but he was not cooperative for photos. Needless to say, I am really excited to have corns back in the collection and I am already planning for the next acquisitions. A couple more years and the real fun begins. Thanks for looking.

congrats on the new additions. You know, once you get one...then two... you are hooked and just can't stop.

I've already been hooked for years!!!! It's an addiction I choose not to fight, however!

The next thing you know your have three or four projects going with offspring going on two years and you have to wait to breed them another year and you have 100 snakes!

Who did you get your corn from. I bet it is het for something or other.

I got the animal from Bruckman Reptiles. I have gotten some stuff from them in the past and they are good people with good animals.

I would not be surprised if the animal was het for something but, to be honest, I did not even ask as I really like the natural phases. I like the morphs, too, but wanted to start with naturals. If something unexpected pops out of the egg when I breed them, that will just be a bonus.

Thanks,
Rob

Most (or at least many) non-locality normals are het for at least one trait.

I'd like to see some photos of that one as it grows.
Lately I've become more interested in natural phases of corns.
Here's a male that just arrived this morning.
Welcome back to corns!

I agree, natural will always have a special place with me as well. Wild caught VA corn:

I'll definitely post some photos as she grows (I'll even try to get the male to pose someday, too). As I was standing at the table looking over all the corns (and they had lots to chose from) my eye kept coming back to the "normal" ones. I also really like some of the amels I see so that is probably what is next for me. I really like the reds and oranges in corns so all of the morphs that take that away don't really do anything for me. I'll keep you posted on her progress.
