shedding question

coheed196 Feb 27, 2008 01:02 PM

My female dragon is about 15.5" long and 180 grams, she is 9 months old. Anyways she has never had a problem shedding before but for the last week or so her tail has been "in shed" i was wondering how long is it supposed to take for it to come off. I've put her in the bath everynight for about 10 minutes at a time to try and help but it hasnt. I would leave her in the bath longer but she can't stand to be in there, she goes ballistic once she gets in the water. I know if it stays on there too long it can restrict her blood flow and such so i was just wondering when that starts to occur and what else i can do to help her out.

The bath water should be about 86-88 any warmer and they fight like heck to get out. Try cooler water, I use a thermometer and the right temp. feels very slightly cool.

Sometimes it takes a while for them to shed as they get older and larger. You could just mist her tail rather that doing the whole bath routine if you want. It is a little tougher for them to shed in the winter because the humidity is so much lower in most people's houses.

yeah, don't stress the shed yet. If you start to notice a blackening (not just darkening, but actual black) at the end of the table, then be concerned. But until then you are doing what you can.
