First of the new babies! Now what???

blueselaphe Feb 27, 2008 07:58 PM

And wouldn't you know it, they are all normal looking so far.. Perhaps the clear nail hypos are still incubating. I have had 6 of 21 hatch so far nd the little ones haven't eaten yet. It has been 3 days. They look good, when should I start to worry?
Thanks..

Sometimes it can take them a while. They can go for a long time off of what was in their yolk sacks. Were the parents clear nailed or hets?

I would worry if they get to a week or more without having eaten. Also make sure they stay hydrated.

Post some pictures!

Both of the parents were hets for clear nail hypo. I have only had the 6 hatch so far. There were 21 eggs. Have you ever had part of a clutch hatch early? I estimated mid- March for the hatch. Oh, I am a snake guy mostly so these 4 leggers are a bit strange to me. I have the babies set up in a deep rubber-maid with lots of perches. I sprayed them down this morning and this evening and they are starting move around alot. They are still chubby and alert so I am not too worried yet. I will post pics this weekend - I have a few rat snakes i want to put up too!
Thanks,

Well, number 7 hatched yeasterday and we took him out today and put him with the others. We named him, well, 7. He was quite abit larger than the first 6 and he was the only remaining egg for the same deli cup that the first 6 hatched from. Although he wasn't a hypo, he still shows alot more color than his siblings. We still have 15 left to hatch in 2 different deli cups.
