Moldy eggs

hatchdragon Aug 27, 2003 10:30 PM

New to the forum... so bear with me. I have been breeding dragons for about three years and have never had a mold problem... until now!! I am incunating at 84 degrees... in perlite and have two eggs in one of my current clutches that is about 40 days out that are showing the tell tale signs of mold. They have looked great up to this point. Swelling nicely and white. Any tips on what I could do to save them if possible!! Thanks!!!

I've not ever had the problem, but I remember past posts that said to reove the moldy eggs and put them in their own container. Use foot powder on the moldy eggs by applying with a q-tip and rubbing it on the eggs.
I can't say that this works, but it's the standard answer I've seen.
Could your substrate be too moist?

I had this problem with one of my western hognose snake eggs and someone at the hognose forum was very helpful. He told me to use an anti fungal foot powder on the moldy area of the egg. First you take a dry q-tip and gently wipe off the mold, then apply the powder to where the mold is growing. It worked for my little hognose, he hatched out nicely. Good luck with your eggs and I hope they hatch. Best of luck. Christy

You can also try some damp sphagnum moss.I was told that the acids in the moss fend off most types of fungus.I was having the same problem earlier this year and this has seemed to work so far.
