Looking for pics...

unicorn118 Feb 28, 2008 02:49 PM

Hi everyone! I hope someone can help me out. I'm looking for pics of either albino or sunglow Colombian Rainbow Boas. I've tried searching websites but I've only found one pic of an albino. If someone could post pics or tell me about a website I could go to I'd appreciate it. Thanks, Valerie

There are albino pictures in the Rainbow Boa photo gallery. Sun glows have not been produced.

Valerie,
...Ricardo Rubio has albino Colombian Rainbow Boas. I have seen them and they are amazingly beautiful snakes. There are only a couple of PICs of them on his website
www.rubiosreptiles.com/
I don't think the website has been updated in quite awhile. You can probably email him from the contact info on the website and get him to send you PICs of any he has for sale.
...I think I have a couple PICs around here somewhere. If I find any I will post them.
Jeff

I had this PIC and I am pretty sure it is one of the earlier PICs of Ian Gniazdowskis amelanistic Brazilian Rainbow.

I am not positive but I believe those two PICs of the amelanistic Brazilian Rainbow were taken before the snake left Guyana.

I know people love albino's, the first pic was nice, but I like the female red phase I got from you better then that second pic hand's down, all snakes do not look better as albinos, I prefer Leucism over albinism in snakes myself lol

or am i the only herper that likes a norm over albino 90% of the time....

there are a few albino that really look amazing, but i wouldnt say they look better than the normals...

there are also albions that look good (IMO a step down from normals) that are desireable just because its soo different.

now if i where a big name breeder and had a ton of snakes i would of course be right there in line to get one. but in that case it would be more for the breeding potential for the genes..

but to get a snake for my own private collection for looks alone then albino would be at the bottom of the list, and again i would choose the norm over the albino close to 90% of the time

just my thoughts, does anyone else agree? or even sort of agree or am i alone on this one lol

I like them all...here are a few links to my collection, I just gave 21 snakes to a friend, they are all nice and many regulars are definitely nicer and healthier and more fit all around, anomalies are anomalies for a reason and inbreeding makes all the genetics get more lethal regardless of opinions. This is not even all the animals I have either...

yeah oddly enough if you look at albinos in the wild (i dont know about all but mamals for sure like deer and such) they always end up outcasts like. never as healthy and often bullied, ive seen albino white tailed deer, one live in the wild (awesome to see) and a full mount at a hunting store in maine and both where all beat up from being picked on

I don't really understand the albino thing either, especially for BRB's, one of the most beautifully colored species in the world. Just my personal opinion, obviously. And a nice side effect of liking "normals" is that it's easier on the wallet!

Thanks,
Ed

I love classic retics but my albino I just gave to my friend is truly beautiful to say the least...but the Brazilian one is ugly in my opinion, but that lucy Columbian Jeff put up is spectacular IMO.

yes some albinos are good looking but imo never better than thier norm counterpart...

and i have to disagree with you as far as the lucy goes. its a pure white snake.... no color no pattern.... if it wasnt labled a BRB there would be no way of telling what it was.

IMO snakes are alot like birds in the way of being beautiful gems. BRB are right up there on the my list of most beautiful and brightly colored. why would you want to take that and breed it till it was devoid of ALL color??

Now that you mentioned it, I do remember seeing an albino
retic ("lavendar phase", I think)at a show last year, that was pretty neat looking...

okay so this one is labled as an amelanistic, and if i am correct that mean no black pigment... amel = no black hypomel = less black ...

now what about albino? is albino the same thing as amel?

This is the first pic taken of the animal when we imported it. The pics of it on the pink sheets are not the pics recieved from our supplier in Guyana. We first saw the snake with a guy holding it. Then one of a lady holding it. The snake was thin and had a beat up nose, but was fed over there and gained nice weight before arriving even though it was still thin. From pics from that designer book, looks like he is nice and chunky now! Was about 3.5ft when Imported. Maybe 4.

These two PICs first started going around 10 years ago. Sometimes they were labled as amelanistic Brazilian Rainbow Boa and sometimes as leucystic Colombian Rainbow Boa which is what I think the snake really was. The two different urban legends that were conveyed with the PICs both ended with the snake dying in captivity before it reproduced. What I like about these PICs more than the genetic mutation is how well they show the heat sensitive labial pits.
