worried about not-eating baby----ideas?

odin22 Feb 28, 2008 03:06 PM

Greetings:

I have a baby who was born 2/2/08; it shed at about 2 weeks and had a patchy shed which took the better part of a week to finish; and it still hasn't eaten, though we've offered f/t pinkie mice.
The baby has been IBD exposed (Dad had it, we don't know about mom). Mom was a picky eater. The baby still has decent weight. Should I be worried? If not, when should I start?

Thank you.

And I also am really sorry about the death of The Beauty. I lost our red baby too......but damn she wasn't anything like Beauty.

babies usually take live for thier first feedings.

I thought you had all the babies put down? Id get that one checked so you dont risk spreading IBD to your whole collection.

Live.....doh! Thank you. The bf will hopefully bring a few home from the expo in MD tomorrow. Just the first meal, or are we going to have to scramble again? Last time we had babies (for longer than a couple days) we were also breeding rats and so everyone was giving birth-- snakes and rats. This time we don't have anything.

Our "collection" is now just this baby boa, a ball python, a baby rat snake and a baby corn snake. And a crested gecko and soon a Isle E leachi. As long as I handle the ball first, no one else is in danger. And if it ever comes to not being able to keep the baby, then I'll see about putting it down then. We don't have the money to test this one --I also have a horse I have to start supporting.

Thanks again,
Antigone
