WREG (Memphis, Tennessee) 21 February 08 Snakes In A House (Shaun Chaiyabhat)
Here's a story that is sure to make your skin crawl: dangerous and aggressive snakes living right under foot. One Midsouth family was living that nightmare for years.
Snake-hunter Michael Brown with APEX Wildlife Control says, "There's one thing that's always predictable with wildlife, and that's wildlife is unpredictable."
Unpredictable and dangerous according to Brown who says a few of the snakes he found were poisonous Eastern CottonMouths.
Imagine being cooped up in a dark, tiny crawlspace and coming face-to-face with three feet of a scaly, slithering, poisonous pest. That was how Brown and some other workers spent their Thursday. It scared the living daylights out of workers. JR Wyatt works at The Crawlspace Doctors and says, "We see a lot of things, but this is one house that scared us pretty good."
You expect to see these type of snakes living in the woods -- just not in your house. At least 6 snakes balled up in the insulation. Some were Rat Snakes and a couple were Cottonmouths. Workers say there's no telling how many more are under the floorboards. One snake took a couple shots at one of the workers. Luckily he wasn't injured, but it made the choice easier to evict these unwanted tenants.
Van Paula Wilkie is the homeowner who has known about the snakes for years. "In the winter, sometimes we see them come home. It won't happen again. They've promised me they're not going to be able to come in."
If you were wondering, the snakes were released unharmed into the wild.
