PARANOID???last post today I promise

mAli Feb 28, 2008 08:40 PM

Ok, I am reading another forum and there are people complaining about puffing noises. I am thinking it is nothing, then others are posting "go to the vet...resp. infection, etc." Being that I was just at the vet 2 weeks ago thinking about a resp infection,I am listening extra carefully to my egyptian's breathing much to his dismay. Long story short, he was inflating, and he is pretty loud when he does it. Is this normal for a heavybodied uro like an egyptian to be so much louder when inflating? The vet says there was no infection. No signs present, but there were no diagnostics performed. It is pretty loud, no wheezing, no whistling, but when he inflates it is LOUD. Of course he did not inflate at the vet. Anyone? Dumb question maybe but those posts have me paranoid.

Completely normal, Douglas Dix told me awhile back that the blowing up was a stress response. In the natural world if you make yourself look bigger, you also make yourself look harder to swallow. If I'm not mistaken, in order to "blow up" they take in air and yes they make noises when doing so. Out of curiosity was it a snake forum that you stumbled upon. If so, it’s a common sign of upper respiratory when a snake makes wheezing sounds.

Cheers,

Paul

No it was another uro forum. The other noises he was making stopped with the shedding of his nostril. But being the inflating noise was so much louder than my other uros, and that I overheard the vet giving what sounded like the same generic advice to a green tree python owner(but indeed in shed) while I was waiting for the coccidia meds, I thought I would double check. He does get a little stressy in spring, though. Last year, too. Then add the vet trip and nearly daily examinations from me, and I can't get near him without him inflating. Saw him this morning without him knowing, he seems fine. Thanks.

the exhaling is not really what I was worried about, but that is loud too. It is when he takes in the air-it almost sounds like clicking. You read about resp infections and they always mention clicking. He is really louder than the others, never noticed the sound until he does it.
