MOJAVE x MOJAVE II

panhead Feb 28, 2008 09:14 PM

A few posts down someone stated that a super mojave was basically a grey snake with some white in it. These pictures were not taken under the best lighting (fluorescent) but I don't see this as a grey snake other than the head. Thanks for looking.

I really like the head color on them. Never realized you could see the eye stripe on them.

Nice,
Tom

Thats a real beauty, and it's also leucistic. Just because there are different degrees of brightness when combining the different alleles of the platinum complex doesn't mean that that one is not leucistic. Leucistic means WHITE and thats ALL it means. Anyone who looks at that snake and can't see that it's white must be blind.

Here's another "white" snake. This guy is growing like a weed.

Thanks a lot..now I have to go buy a mate for my mojave

paulbuckley Feb 29, 2008 02:39 PM

it is really gorgeous though.

maybe its just the shots and lighting, but in these shots, that snake looks to have various shades of cream and grey.

mykee Feb 29, 2008 02:58 PM

I'm in complete agreement. Certainly not a "white snake" as many are, more shades of grey and dirty dirty white but a "leucistic" at least by encyclopedia definition.
By far the most unnatractive of all "white snakes" I feel though. Nice super mojave though....

AS FAR AS WHAT I HAVE HEARD THE IVORIES BECOME INCREASINGLY WHITE AS THEY GROW BECOMING MORE WHITE THAN THE MOJAVE SUPER DOES.

No disrespect to anyone working on the mojave x mojave "Super". However, I've never viewed them as a "lucy". To me a pure white snake is a Lucy and nothing else. A dark grey head with a light grey body in my mind doesn't qualify as "lucistic". An interesting looking animal but Lucistic it is not.........

so the faint dorsal stripes on super lesser/butter, vin russo line lucy, super fire lucy's and pretty much every other combo lucy that has some faint dorsal pattern or blotches are not "LUCY'S" either. By your argument the only true lucy is the lesser pied produced by Ralph this year. By the true definition of lucy = a condition in which normal pattern and color is replaced by white due to the absence of normal color producing cells. This can be either complete or partial.

Gah, how many times does this need to be addressed? ROFLMAO

"However, I've never viewed them as a "lucy". To me a pure white snake is a Lucy and nothing else. A dark grey head with a light grey body in my mind doesn't qualify as "lucistic". An interesting looking animal but Lucistic it is not........."

Piebald = Partial Lucy
Homozygous Mojave = Lucy
Ivory = Lucy
Lesser x Lesser = Lucy
Snow = Phenotypic Lucy
etc etc.

Doesn't matter "How white' or how purty you think the snake is. If its lacking patterning, and is predominantly white, then yes it IS a lucy. Good example is the Snowball (Albino Axanthic). Genotypically, this is not a single trait lucy, but it is indeed a phenotypic Lucy(well the cleaner ones that have almost no patterning showing through would be considered a phenotypic lucy).

Stop thinking "How clean is the white defines a lucy" and start thinking "Is there a pattern to this animal?" that's alot more helpful in definining this than how purty it is LOL.

Pan,

Having never seen a super mojave and relying on others desricptions, " whitish with a dirty head", I hadn't planned on pairing mo to mo, that snake changes my mind. Very nice snake, thanks for posting!

I really like the MojaveXMojave. I love the colors on that one! I agree that if you want a really white snake, its not the way to go, but having all the greys and off whites, and still being able to see the head pattern makes this a really attractive snake in my opinion. Awesome animal man!!!

Amazing animal you have there, love how the head looks like that of RDR's Super Phantom's paired with an Ivory's body. To the naysayers, yes that's a lucy, and if you disagree, go do some research as to what a phenotypic lucy is indeed.

Gunmetal and white, who thought they'd go so well together
