whats your take on safe plants for uros?

kich4theanswer Feb 28, 2008 09:50 PM

Hey Folks,

I'm currently on a trip on wanting to "green" up my arid/dry species cages, in which my uro's at my top priority. I have all naturistic cages setup and I was hoping that some of you might offer me some insight to safe plants for veggie consumers such as uros? Also I was in a recent reptile oriented pet store and I picked up a desert species of Aloe. It's known as Aloe Varirgata (fheasant breast aloe which is similar to partridge aloe). It seems like the whole issue of aloe being not safe for animals in general is somewhat of a controversial issue. Where many folks insist that it’s poisonous, thus being not safe to use, others maintain that its fine to use and nontoxic. One site even mentioned aloe being safe for Russian tortoises. I'm not 100% set on using or not using the aloe in my cage, so any feedback would be appreciated as well as maybe some other suggestions for different kinds of plants. Thanks again!

Happy Herping,

Paul

My Mali will demolish an aloe if allowed. Same with jade plants. Is it bad for him? I can't say yes or no, he will eat them if allowed but I don't let him chow on them very often. He will also go after fleshy cactus.
