prolapse, maybe?

pshaw Feb 29, 2008 12:12 AM

This is sort of long but I really need some advice. I have a ball python and I posted about him having a growth on his anus. I have come to think that it is some kind of prolapse. From the few things that I read I underdstood that it is a serious issue so I took him to the vet a couple weeks ago. Whatever it was had retracted by that time so she told me that it may have been prolapse but there was no way to know for sure since she couldn't see it. She did see that the area was a bit inflamed inside and gave me 2 different types of medicines to give my snake. I don't think that they helped since it happened again. The vet also told me to just make sure that the area was cleaned often when it happened to keep away infection. Whenever my snake goes to the bathroom something pops out and then stays out for atleast a week, maybe more. I was cleaning the area multiple times a day like the vet said but I did not really like doing that because often the are would bleed and get redder when I cleaned it and I felt like I might be hurting my snake. Right now the thing is retracted so I cannot take a picture of it to post. My snake does not seem to be hurting or find the area sensitive in any way when I touch it. This always happens when he poops. One thing the vet said was that my snake may have a genetic defect and his hemipenis may be formed wrong and be more prone to prolapse. I am wondering if anyone has a similar story to mine and what they did. I love my snake and I don't want him to be hurting. Sorry that this is so long but I wanted to include all the information.

Just to add something. He is being fed frozen fuzzy mice. They are all the same size and he hasn't always had these issues so I don't think it is his diet.
