red factor turning grey?

deetu Feb 29, 2008 02:53 PM

My male is turning 6 years old. He has always been bright red in color until this recent shed where he is grey under the shedding skin.

He has always lived on red sand (please, no comments on sand because he eats out of a bowl)

Is this because of his age (as my son suggests) or is he missing something in his food? Any suggestions on how to get him red again?

could be both. Age and something missing in his food. Or maybe it was always the dye from the red sand...(if it isn't made from natural red sand or crushed rock. some are actually dyed).

Thanks but could you suggest anything to feed him. Carrots, sweet potatoes, etc?

We didn't always have him in red sand. He started out in bright blue. That would have been an interesting color morph

Regular healthy salads should do. A little shredded carrot can be added as well as edible flowers (hibiscus, dandelion flowers...)
