silicon smell

OKC_Exotics Feb 29, 2008 03:53 PM

I built an 8X3X2 cage for one of my burms about a month ago. I made it out of plywood and tile board, using silicone to seal the inside seams to make it water tight. I took the lid off and glass doors out to air it out for about a week, put the lid and glass back on and it still smelled of silicon. So I thought it was the brand of silicon, scraped it off and did it again with another brand. Same thing happened, smelled too strong and didn't think I could put snakes in it. Well, the third time, I used aquarium silicon and let it sit outside again without a lid and door. I brought the cage in last night, put the lid and doors back on and this afternoon smelled it and I could STILL smell the silicon. I am so frustrated with this that I can't stand it anymore. That burm NEEDS to be in a bigger cage and it kills me that I can't put her in there, or can I? The smell isn't as bad as when I first put it in there, but I'm still afraid of hurting her with the fumes. Any suggestions???

Yeah, I have seen it, haven't used it yet. I will get some and test it out. Have you used it before? Just wondering on the time it takes for the smell to go away, I tried to find some low odor silicone. I don't think they make it, or atleast I haven't found it.
