What do you guys like to do to relax?

boaphile Feb 29, 2008 05:50 PM

What do you guys like to do to relax?

I like to do two things really. I eat baby hands when I can...

I don't really eat them. I just pretend to. It can be a little bit traumatic I guess watching that little hand disappear. But then to really relax, ahhhh

There is nothing like a little music to unwind...

But what I really like to do best is to be elbow deep in baby goo...

Good clean fun!

Relaxing to me is (as weird as it sounds) doing my snake chores. The two next best things for me to do to relax are; cranking up some Megadeth, and being out in the field herpin.

BTW, thats an awesome litter! How many babies in that one?

I love to fish. Here are some pics of my boat and a striper I caught in lake Texoma.

I also like to build and paint figure models of comic characters. Here are a few.

Jeff:

I used to be in a rock band back in the seventies. I still play my 35 year old Martin D-28 a few times a week, it's great therapy. Not that I need therapy???????

The first photo is where I can be found 7 days a week cleaning cages. And sometimes I bring my guitar in and play for my captive audiance. Maybe that's why I can't get my snakes to breed.

The second photo is of our album cover. We went on a cross country tour back in 1973. The name of our band was Homestead & Wolfe. I'm the guy on the far right with the mustache and long brown hair. Yeah Jeff that's right when I had hair. What's really cool is that our album is still selling here and in Europe.

Brian, I think you need to start a "snake room" thread and post a few more of your room to get it rolling. Looks like a great place to spend some alone time!!!

Jason:

Here is a different photo of my snake den that will hopefully give you a better view of what you are asking about. If you're question is about the white racks those are made out of 5/8 inch particle board, the particle board was sealed with varathane and then painted white. The 3" heater tape lays into an 1/8" dadoed track in the back of each tub. I purchased these racks from a guy about 12 years ago when I used to breed colubrids.

A very important note and I must give Dave Colling credit for this one. Everything I have in the den is on wheels. From the vision cages to the incubator. If by chance I ever leave a door open and a snake gets out it makes it much easier to go indoor herping.

I hope you are having a great season.

I love that middle pic with all the baby heads poking up!!!

Daily relaxing like most of is snakey chores, love pulling tubs and finding freshly shed snakes.

For my getting away and relaxing I snow ski in the winter and do water sports and camping in the summer.....

Here's what I like to do to relax. Unfortunately the weather doesn't always cooperate.

Guy Scavone II Mar 01, 2008 12:07 AM

That is SO bad ass. I have always wanted to do that. I heard they have backpack ones now as well with a prop. What's it run for a full setup?

Guy

fhuici Mar 01, 2008 06:58 AM

Hmmm, I'm not sure what you mean that they now have backpack ones. They only have the foot launch one's like the one I have and they they also have one's that you can attach a trike to it. Which you can also do with the one that I have. Those require a longer strip to take off and land.

Prices for a motor (backpack as you call it) and wing can range between $6000.00 to about $10,000.00. If you want a trike figure about another $2000.00 to $6000.00.

Training is the most important and critical component. That ranges between $700.00 to $1500.00. HOWEVER, there is one instructor out there that will train you for free. He even comes to you. All you have to do is get him a plane ticket. And if he can stay at your house, then that's even better. He's the best out there and is the one that trained me and a whole bunch of others. If you are interested, email me your info and I'll give you more information.

This is the best sport ever! The feeling of flying free like a bird is indescribable!!! You can fly as low as you want or as high as you want but I would stay below 15000 if you don't take oxygen! LOL

The sport is growing like a weed here in the US and it's the safest sport above ground.

Here I am flying low over the beach. It's incredible all the marine life you can see from up there.

Here I'm getting to lauch from an Airport but you can lauch from just about any open location.

And here is how I carry it around. The wing folds up and is inside the car. Most units can be taken apart within 5 minutes and fit in just about any midsize trunck. I just got a hitch on my car and bought a carrier for it. And you won't believe the crazy looks I get. Everyone looks!!!!

Take care,
Frank

tcdrover Mar 01, 2008 08:39 AM

day & I thought someone's airboat had fallen apart.

It looks very thrilling, but I prefer to keep my feet on the
ground or in the water...

Guy Scavone II Mar 01, 2008 01:39 PM

Man, you got the life!

In that first pic I thought you were in one of those trikes. You have what my buddy showed me... the one I'd want to try!

So it's not terribly unsafe? I've jumped out of an airplane, but that was a one time gig... but damn was it sweet.

g

skyslinger Mar 01, 2008 12:04 PM

But. . . that looks very cool. And in skydiving you only get one approach at landing. That is after 60 seconds of freefalling at 150-300 mph (unless you take oxygen and go above 16000 ft) What a thrill! LOL

I love that it's ok for you to post that picture... because everyone knows there's few things as good as a baby's hand!!! Clearly it's gotta get put in your mouth

Is the pic of you rocking out just before you sprayed fire? I'm please either way.

Looks like a hell of a litter too! All's well that ends well and all that [bleep]

I'm guessing when you wrote the topic you cackled your crazy laugh (in your head at least)

Ophidia_Junkie Mar 01, 2008 06:56 AM

I try to take pictures, hiking, camping, herping, anything outdoors is relaxing for me.

But lately, all I can do is pace the floor, and stare at these two...

Ain't NO relaxing for me at the moment. LOL

tcdrover Mar 01, 2008 08:33 AM

I LOVE to see all of those tiny, pointy, little heads pointing
skyward out of that goopy goo. It is a beautiful site...

I like hanging out in the Everglades, I'm right about to buy a
canoe next month so I can start hitting the canoe trails.

I'm really into live music too. Lately I'm on a Mark Knopfler
kick. The shows he did last year are great. I'd forgotten all
about him. There are a pair of TV appearances he did in Europe
which really impressed me.

But for pure relaxation, I like to kick back with boas in hand &
watch football. Hands down my favorite activity. With a dark
beer in the other hand, of course

xrayeric1993 Mar 01, 2008 05:18 PM

That is exactly what I told my wife when we were married. I need sex , snakes, and sports (go Broncos) to make me happy. Well at least I have snakes and sports. Two out of three is not bad?

Doing all my herp chores, especially when no one's home and it's quiet. You get enthralled in it, it's nice.

Other than that, I like reading and playing XBox 360.

boaphile Mar 01, 2008 10:11 AM

One thing nobody seemed to get was, this is NOT me:

Rob Tudehope sent this to me. A picture taken from a YouTube video of a group that makes racket, and I do mean unadulterated noise, called "Down". Apparently one guitarist does look like me. It's a little crazy but if you choose to check it out, MUTE your speakers! If you don't, you'll be sorry.

By the way Guy...

You said you would love to fly:

All you need to do is get your Mom to buy you three or four of those little helium balloons, and your off!

Mike,
gorgeous car. Where are you guys from? Where do you race? Im guessing the Vette runs S/G, and the dragster S/C as well as brackets? awesome to meet someone with the EXACT same intrests!

combs reptiles Mar 02, 2008 06:38 AM

I live in FL and my dad lives in MD during the summer and down here in the winter. He drag races all over the country, I mostly down here, not as much as I like to.
Both cars run the class' you said, except we sold the dragster and just took delivery of a new one that will run top dragster etc, low 6's.
How about you? where and what do you run?
Take it easy..
Mike

If you snooze...you lose!

JohnnyK68 Mar 02, 2008 07:48 AM

Mike, I live in Pennsylvania. I run Pro E.T. (footbrake). Dont travel a ton. I run 3 tracks around here, and I do try to get to as maney of the Big Buck footbrake races as I can. I have run at Cecil County Dragways in Md. many times. Mostly Numidia Raceway, and Island Dragway. Have run maplegrove also quite a bit.
The car is capapable of running into the high 9s but I wasnt liscenced last year to do so, and the chassis wasnt certed. I just got the chassis certified over the winter, and will beging lic runs as soon as the weather breaks.

combs reptiles Mar 02, 2008 12:25 PM

Thats cool. Foot brake bracket racing is my favorite, (to do).
Thats what i grew up on at 75-80 in md.
I will probally being doing alot more of that, with a 70 chevelle now that i have a son and want him to get involved.
What kind of car do you race?

Good luck with it all!!

Mike

JohnnyK68 Mar 03, 2008 12:38 PM
