new sulcata

xxfatalxx42 Feb 29, 2008 08:36 PM

hi there i was wondering i have a new sulcata just purchased yesterday the guy i got him from says he's 1 1/2 yrs old and has been fed mazuri tort diet.this tort is about 9in is that possible to be 9in at a yr and a half old? also since i got him he stays in his hide and won't come out at all he has not eaten anything yet.if i put him under his basking light he just goes back in his hide.his temps are 93 basking side 76 cool side.i have not yet seen his stool but he seems to make a slight sound sometimes when he breathes.i was thinking maybe a ri but there is no bubbles around the nose and eyes are clear.he looks very healthy a slight pyramiding in his shell because of all the mazuri but i will fix that.i was wondering could the lack of appetite just be from the shipping and being in a new place is it normal for them to hide all day and not eat?or how long should i give him to go without food before it might be a worse problem/

there is a good chance there is an ri it is the winter and they do get them very easy this time of year. mine have always cleared up when i put them out for the summer and it heats up. i usually give my new torts at least a week to get settled in be patient. they dig burrows in the wild and spend a lot of time in them. so hiding is part of their comfort zone. eventually it will come out and graze on whatever is available. 9in? 1 12 YEARS OLD? that is to big for a yearling

excatly what i though there is no way this tort is a year and a half old they fed it 10mazuri pellets a day and had it in a 50g plastic bin.i see no way she could have lived like that.she not showing any bubbles from the nose or breathing with her mouth open but she does make this weird sound when she moves like a puff or clicking type of sound she has stayed hid this will be 2 full days now no food i soaked her when i got her and i will soak again in a few days.i don't understand why she won't go under her basking light?
