feeding green tree monitor

bagira Mar 01, 2008 05:23 AM

hello everybody,
i just got me a green tree monitor, i bought it from someone i know for years and i also "know" this monitor for the last past year.
due to personal reason the owner had to sell the monitor and i bought it with it's terrarium (to reduce the stress of moving to a new owner in a new terrarium).

so, where is the problem?
the first thing that is a concern for me is that he didnt eat at all for the past week that he is here.

but the greatter concern is that in this week he didnt "poop" at all and the cage is spot clean.

that means he didnt eat for the previouce week too

that really worries me and any advice will be really apritiated

BTW, i am from israel and vets that specialize in reptiles are non axisting at all.

just a note to say that the envirmental terms are fine and acording to its needs, humidity is above 70% at all times, temp are 77 on the cool spot and 102 right beneath the ceramic lamp.

he has lots of tree trunks and real live plants.
size of terrarim: 5 feet tall X 3 feet wide X 2 feet depth.

i offered him hard boil eggs, chicen wings (just the meet),african roaces, skull roaches, cricets but he sows no interest in all of them.

i havent kept monitors in a few years but i think your temps are too low. try an ambiant temp of 85-f and a hot spot of about 120-130 deg f. and what is the cage like, if it isnt that tall put it on a tall piece of furniture, flighty tree monitors like to be high up, it makes them feel safe.and your humidity may even be low. dont change the temps until someone agrees with my post because as i said, i have not kept monitors in years and am just now getting back into the hobby.

I dont know specifically about tree monitors i know my adult savy the basking temp is around 130 and in the 80's in the cooler side and also he may just be stressed about the move i would just make sure you leave him alone to get settled and put some food in but dont push it on him and see what happens when noone is around. When i moved to a new house my savannah didnt eat for two weeks but i would leave food it and finally at night when all the lights went out and noone was aroundhe started to sneek the food and then eventually he started eating normally and now he is good.
