Here's Boris, my 6 year old male Russian. This was the 1st year he's stayed outside & hibernated on his
own & today he woke up & checked things out. Last summer I made a nice burrow for him, which he
expanded & hunkered down when it started getting colder so I left him alone. Later I mulched his pen
with leaves & covered the area I knew he was under with a tarp, anchored with rocks to keep him relatively
dry. It must've worked because 4 months later he seems fine.

Boris finally got his appetite back & chowed down on some dandelion, sow thistle, & pansy flowers 2 days after waking up.

Really great pictures (both here and in your other thread)! It's so nice to see those little balls of mud emerging from a natural hibernation!
