Proposed ban misconceptions??

BryanD Mar 01, 2008 01:08 PM

Just throwing this out there.... I've read the proposed ban and here's what struck me about it... it doesn't list morelia and in fact it doesn't even prohibit ownership of the genera that are listed, just interstate transport. There are plenty of ball python breeders in my state, so why is everyone so worried if I'm not?

Two things-first, the health and even existence of the current snake market depends on breeders and dealers being able to freely market their animals across state lines.

Second, this is the first step toward an all-out ban, which is strongly desired and being advocated by a variety of animal rights and radical environmental groups, notably HSUS and PETA. The "invasive alien" angle is their biggest wedge with government wildlife people.

In my city its already illegal to own snakes of any kind that bite and or constrict, Pretty abroad don't you think? The Ban is just another way to control what we do. What would you do if there was nobody in your state breeding ball pythons? Would you drive across state lines to go pick up your 10$ snake? Seems a bit extravagant.

With this new law, How am I suppose to get my snakes from California to Illinois, I'm definitely not driving there. So with shipping out of the question my dream of my new snake is basically crushed.

This law is completely wrong and irresponsible of the Federal wildlife commission, it solves NOTHING and creates a whole new mess for the rest of us hobbyist's.

Just my two cents

and if and when they do open the box and they will (they did it to me) it will be a felony that you have committed. Dont be stupid. Our love and passion as we know it, could very well be done for all of us.

It seems to be a discussion at this point, possibly leading to a ban. ALL pythons might be on it.
