I have two RE froglets almost 3 months out of water and I haven't been able to get them to accept anything but crix. They wouldn't even eat the fruit flies when they were new morphs. You can try other things like meal worms (high in fat so don't offer often) wax worms (also treats) moths, house flies... basically any soft bodies insect that isn't longer then the width of their mouths.

If you get yours to eat something other than crix, let me know I too would like to add to their diet.

I have 3 Red-Eyes (1 is a year-and-half old, other 2 are about a year) and their diet is totally crickets. I've tried other food items but after they sampled they ignored so it's been crickets ever since and it hasn't seemed to bother them. All 3 are healthy, content and active. The 2 males call regularly. So I haven't had a problem with mine and they seem fine on just crickets. Just make sure to gut-load the crix and dust them with suppliment. If anyone has any info of long-term problems on a pure cricket diet hopefully they'll post.
Hope this helps.

I've been keeping & breeding red-eyes for years and have only feed them a diet of crickets. I've never had any problems, just remember to gut-load a variety of foods to the crickets a dust w/vitamins 1x a week. Good Luck!

how many crickets a week would a full grown red eyed tree frog eat???

ellasmommie Aug 28, 2003 11:14 PM

Well, that all depends on the size of the frog and the crix. One average one adult sized RE will eat 3-4 med/large crix every other day so a dozen would do ya for a week. Juvies will eat 4-5 pinhead/ 1/4 inch crix every day, so about 2 dozen for a week.
