First of all im appauled at the look of the dirty cage, first thing that caught my eye. I've seen this condition with tanted feeders, that you didn't raise your own. There was a article on one of these forums about it, it looks like the boa is losing it's pigment. Let's see what others say and clean the darn cage!!!

I saw that too didnt want to say anything though. but the white scales all over its back leads me to believe it might be from burns.

That snake looks like the Typhoid Mary of the Boa World.
Looks like it has shed its colors. Looks like thermal burns dorsally. In that first picture by the way it's holding its mouth, I'd say either mouth rot or a respiratory infection. Also, looks to be in long term pre-shed condition -- indicating internal toxins, liver/kidney function issues. The nasty stool in the cage suggests gastroenteritis a possibility.
I sure hope you don't have any other snakes anywhere near that one.
You've got the poster child for the Stop Boa Abuse League.

ok the pictures are 4.5 years old. the snake was in shed when picture was taken and yes the cage was not very clean. i do not owne the snake I only wish I did. I did not take the pictures eather. and have never seen the snake in person.
From what I'm told that its not burns or rat bites and she was not sick eather. From what I am told this snake is a true calco. Thought I would post the pictures I had of her. Keith

No. Well, I guess that depends on what the definition of "True Calico" is, though.

The "white" Scales on the neck are scars With out a doubt. They are differnt looking then the other lighter scales over the body. That happens once a while. (the lighter scales I mean not the scares!!!!) many breeders have "calicos" or "pieds" they Don't ever prove out though.

I wasn't going to reply but wanted to point out an observation... whenever someone posts a pic of a snake kept in poor conditions & others comment on it, 99.9% of the time they claim that the snake belongs to someone else. Maybe this isn't the case here, and I apologize if it is...BUT it's just my 2 cents. The boa has potential for looking like a nice snake if its still around.

I know you commented that the snake wasn't yours... maybe it isn't, maybe it is, or maybe you might be in touch with it's owner ;p So rather than comment on the same things everyone else has... I too noticed that it was the cage that was dirty, but also that the newspaper was recently changed. Perhaps you could tell the owner a trick to keep the cage looking cleaner. I use newspaper too and what I do is fold the edges up so that when I clean and use a mister (cheap water mister from any department store) to get it to conform to the cage and stay where I want it. This way, most of the time, waste is on the newspaper and not wedged into the corners or walls of the cage. It makes it easier to clean for one, and from there a good sanitizer (snake friendly I might add) and those possible stains or hard to remove messes won't be around for later! Don't fold the edges too high because they will usually flop down from the excess weight, about 1 1/2 inches above the floor. This is a bit time consuming, but it only takes a couple minutes extra and I do it with 39 snakes ;p It will save hard scrubbing and scraping later. Just a suggestion!
Otherwise, I did notice the scarring on the back, and that is looks to be in deep shed, but it seems some of that discoloration may be genetic. The only way to tell is to keep it healthy and see what its offspring look like. Do you know if the owner is selling it? I could be wrong, basing my opinion on the scars and stains on the cage, but it appears the owner may not have much interest or time for snakes... and 20 babies to boot. He may come out of this better if he finds a breeder that has time and funds to see what kind of genetics it really has.
Good luck to you or whomever owns the animal... and to the boa!
