Very weird behavior

DeltaWoods Aug 28, 2003 02:25 AM

I was trying to feed Jack tonight but he wasnt interested in eating at all except one cricket. He kept looking up and trying to climb everything in the tank. I would stick my hand in the tank and he would run right to it and start climbing up my hand. Usually he runs right after the crickets but tonight i had one in there and it was just walking all over while Jack ignored it and just kept looking up and trying to climb. He was even trying to climb nothing a few times and was just raising his arms in the air. He looks healthy and temps are good. Only change is that i had to move him into a new room but that was last friday and hes eaten fine since then just not tonight. If anyone has any ideas or advice i would appreciate it. Thanks.

Hi Rob,

Everything sounds normal to me. Some of my leos love to climb, and enjoy walking on my hand and shoulder. They like to ‘walk’ on the walls of their cages and climb things also; I would guess its how they get exercise. If you have time, let him walk around on you, or in a safe place, it will tire him out and could calm him down once he’s in his cage.
Don’t be too worried if your gecko doesn’t eat for a few days at a time, just watch for weight any loss. The seasons are changing, and I’m noticing different behaviors from a lot of my leos. Superman (one of my leos) has been clawing at the top of his cage for the past week, seem to me like he's trying to get away from the lovely female i put with him.
This is my first year breeding leos and I’m trying my best to share what I’ve seen, so I hope it helps. Best of luck and keep us all posted!

Thanks a lot for the quick response i appreciate it. A little after i posted that he ate one more cricket. It was totally out of no where. He was trying to climb and then all of a sudden he ate the cricket then went back to climbing and wouldnt eat anymore. I let him crawl up my hand a few times then let him crawl around on me outside the tank for a while. Ill have to try feeding again tomorow night. Thanks again.

Glad to hear Jack still has his appetite! Remember, being the bringer of crickets can be a big job sometimes.

Hi Rob:

When was the last time that you had your leo to the Vet?
I would consider taking your leo to the vet. It could be that
your leo has worms or some other kind of parasite. Be sure to
bring a sample with you when you go. My leo's have had worms
on occasion and when they do they usually have no interest in
eating. In order for them to eat, the food has to be right
under their nose. Good luck.

Would the vet find worms in the stool? Or can you tell by looking at the leo because it looks the same as always.
Thanks
