under tank heater ?

i just got a under tank heater should i put it on the bottom or on the side how effective are they on the side?

Usually under-tank heaters are placed UNDER the tank. They can be somewhat effective placed on the side. Any heat source is going to be influenced by a lot of other things such as ambient room temperatures, the type and thickness of the cage materials, the size and output of the strip relative to the size and mass of the Boa, what substrate it used and more.

Fish-tanks in general are not the best housing for Boas, consider getting a real Boa cage. Controlling the temperatures, humidity and providing a secure and maintainable habitat for your snake will become much easier.

Whatever cage or heat-source you use you should invest in some type of controller for the heating.. uncontrolled heat-strips and such are a recipe for problems and even disasters.
