eggs!!!!!!! so soon?

teaspoon Mar 02, 2008 07:50 PM

I got eggs today!!!!!(I'm excited)Its only been two weeks since she first bred this season.I put her with a male for one week last year in June and got two infertile eggs laid on the top of the substrate. That was it, no more eggs/clutches. This year, I put her with a different male two weeks ago. I noticed that she had stopped eating, I thought that it might be because she was stressed out by the male so I put her in her oun cage. I already had it set up for egg-laying, even though I wasn't planning on them for atleast another week. She dug a tunnel and has just finished laying 10 eggs! They all look fine, they have a pink stop(the embrio, right?) I just can't beleive that she layed eggs after only two weeks!? Has this ever happened befor? Did the eggs hatch? Did the mom lay more clutches? I'm really excited.

Congratulations! Its nice getting eggs early. I have a gravid girl that just stopped eating and digging today too.

I have had dragons produce that fast before, it doesn't really mean much, and the eggs will hatch just fine, no worries.

I guess she wasn't done. She laid three small mushy eggs and then another healthy looking one. I'm excited.

It is possible she was already developing eggs when you put your male in...but 14 days is rather quick..but some breeders have had short periods between mating and egg laying. It is also possible she used retained sperm from her mating last year to fertilize this patch. Really no way to know..congrats.

The shell on the eggs seems under calcified. The eggs all have the membrane part of the shell, but are only covered in spots with the white shell, about 50-50. It looks like the calcium began to form like ice crystals over the surface, it looks cool, I'm just a little worried as to whether this will keep them from developing? or will it make it easier for them to hatch? I gave her plenty of Calcium, so it might be because of the short gestation period. I'll be sure to give her more Ca though, just in case.
I think I'll have some idea who the dad is because last year, I borrowed a male that is the dullest grey breadie I've ever seen. The male that I have this year is bright yellow-orange with almost blueish spots along his sides. so I'm hoping to get nice bright babies.
Oh, by the way, there's 15 eggs total four of which are small and squishy with no Calcified-looking areas.

Sure sounds like a calcium deficency. Just make sure the calcium you are using is phosphorus free. I'm not optomistic about the eggs that aren't properly shelled. You'll have to wait and see.
