sexing argus monitors???

Scott_Austin Mar 02, 2008 09:30 PM

I have these two argus monitors that I need some help on sexing. The one on top I have grown up form a baby and the bottom was sold to me as a female one year ago. I recently acquired a female from Prehistoric Pets that was sexed for me. Tim had told me what to look for and I believe the top pic is a male and the bottom is a female. Can anyone tell me if I am correct?

you would be better off just showing a pic of the whole animals. Of all the angles you can show, that is the worst.

A profile of the side of the tail would be great.

But, to me the second one appears male. From its head shape. Good luck

A profile of the head and tail base (or the whole animal) in focus along with their general size makes sexing adult Argus very easy. Males also have very large, bulky and powerful front arms vs. females.

gravid female:

typical adult male:

There's a foot of length difference between the sexes also once they reach full adult size in most animals too.
