The Herp Vet just called us with our necropsy results from our Leo that passed away two weeks ago. Basically they found that she had a bacterial infection in her lungs and liver which could have caused her death (she had been on antibiotics for 4 days and being hand fed during that time prior to her death.
An interesting thing they found which may well have been her actual cause of death due to the way we found her(looking as though she was trotting back to her hide and died mid stride!) was that she had alot of scar tissue in her heart that could have caused a "heart attack" so to speak. They weren't sure if that was the exact cause of death but found it interesting and said it had to have been from some prior illness/infection from years back (we got her from someone else a few years ago that had had her for 5 years)
Anyway we are happy to know that we were doing all the right things , that nothing in our care further compromised her. The Vet said we did everything possible to insure a good outcome once she became ill so that was reassuring!
We have instructions for preparing our tank for another critter when we are ready so we will do that. The vet also gave us some advice about purchasing a new gecko and wants to see the new one right away for a health check so we know we are starting off with a healthy pet.
Thanks again for all the help and advice and comfort everyone has given over the past few weeks!
