How to TAME a baby Egyptian?? help

Kribby83 Mar 03, 2008 02:23 PM

HI,

does anyone have advice for how to tame my baby Egyptian Niles? (he's about 6 in.) Should I hold him as much as possible or leave him alone? I've read dif. things in the past about how to tame uros; varying opinions - what to do?

Niles is a VERY skittish active baby egyptian that is virtually impossible to hold. I have to hold him very tight or he squirms out of my hands and falls. He is very scared of people and we've had him since the fall. He is healthy and an active eater-drinker and has good heat/UV. How do I get him to calm down and stop being scared of my hand? I'm worried I stress him out too much trying to persistantly hold him..

ANy advice please?? thanks so MUCH!

-Kristen

Someone I know with an Egyptian named "Spaz" (for obvious reasons) also had the same problem. She said she spent a lot of time just sitting still in front of the cage (I'd grab a good book) and after a while it realized that people weren't going to hurt it. You could also figure out what it's favorite food is, like edible flowers or soaked lentils, and very gradually try to hand feed it without holding it. Eventually it should calm down. My adult geyri HATES to be held, but he loves to be hand fed, so that's how we interact with him. I don't need to hold him in order to enjoy spending time with him

Andi,

thanks for your advice. funny I have a juvie beardie right now named "Spaz" among the others... but he's NOT really a spaz in comparison to Niles! uros and beardies are soo different

anyways, I will try this method of sitting if front of the cage. Ethan from "ethans den" also said he would put his hand in the cage and just let the uro get used to it. I will try those. when I'm not working I LOVE spending time with my lizards. I'll try to do my paper work in front of Niles cage. I'll let you know if there are improvements in a few weeks

Thank you , and if you hear of/ think of any more advice to calm him please let me know

yes, I had actually read that when it was posted.. but there was no sort of consensus, many disagree on this topic, that's why I asked again..
I re-read it again .. I'm still not sure what I should do , but thank you,
