Kelly, Rob, Robin, GeckoDen, Other Carrot Tail Breeders - I have a question

Rob Jenkins Aug 28, 2003 05:58 AM

How long does it take for hatchlings to start showing carrot tail? I have hatched out a couple amazing looking geckos that never had dark patches like normals. Here's a picture of one and the parents. They are a couple weeks old, but don't have any carrot tail on them, yet. Will it come in?

Do you have any pics of Carrot Tails at 2-4 weeks?

Thanks

Here's Dad -

And, Here's Mom; she's pure Baldy SHCT from the Urban Gecko -

And here's one of the babies at a week old or so. It looked like this from birth -

Heres a picture of a tangerine cross carrotail.
pippie.....
The top most picture is of pippie at 3 days old,
The one under that is of her at 2 weeks old,
the next is her at 1 month old,
and the last is of her at 2 months old,
You can see the carrotail developing at around 2 weeks old.
Hope that helps...

The showing of carrot tail is different with me in almost every gecko. I have some that show very early and some start coming in later. I do feel that if you are not getting any carrot by 18-20 grams though you will not get any or very much. I have babies that had only a small amount at that weight and more than doubled by 30 grams.
Hope this helps,

I have seen it come in at a much late time. But usually by 15 grams or so your already seeing carrot tail. On my crosses it seems to be more gradual in intensity.
This is cross from this year.

A cross from last season.

I don't have much time right now, but I'll post some pics as the carrot tail (hopefully) comes in in the next couple weeks. Man, I've got all 25 of my fingers and toes crossed

Take care and have a great long weekend.
