ghost?

cochran Mar 03, 2008 04:46 PM

This snake was sold to me as a ghost but, she seems to be getting more black on her as she ages.I may hook her up with my amel. bloodred since I don't have a female b.r. for him.

That's a ghost Jeff,

I'm assuming you're referring to the bottom two pics.
That top one of the amel is nice too though.

Female ghosts can be pretty dark - almost as darkl as sone regular aners. Actually, i'm usually disappointed in the looks of female ghosts. male ghosts are typically the REAL pretty ones!

Funny that you mentioned that, because I had a pair of "old-school" ghosts from MANY years ago when they were extremely uncommon(and expensive), and the female was also much darker than the male. As you mentioned, she basically looked anerythristic, but was not, she was a true ghost as well.

After digging around, I found a pic taken with a 35mm camera I had,.....it's pretty poor, but it's all I have(no digitals to speak of back then). Can't seem to find a pic of the female. This male was actually much better looking than the photo shows, he had a nice pinkish cast to him.

I remember amazing people that you could sex an adult ghost corn from across the room at a herp show based on coloration alone....lol. That, too, was when ghosts wwere so uncommon that people brought them as DISPLAY animals at herp shows....lol.

So this is one of the "founding fathers" to our current Ghost population, huh?
Nice looking fellow.

Thanks Misty,........I guess in all reality, he is one of founders. He sired a good number of young in his day, and I'm sure some of his genetic "signature" is spred throughout the cornsnake hobby. I actually only sold the old boy about three years ago to a guy as a pet. The last time I saw him(about two year ago), he wasn't as robust as when I had him, I hope that wasn't a sign of his getting older, but it more than likely was. I really liked the "old-timer".

take care, ~Doug
