F/T Mini-Freezer

HydraZulu Mar 03, 2008 05:06 PM

Hi, I am planning on getting a snake, but i have one problem. I cannot store my f/t mice in our freezer, for reasons i don't wish to discuss, so my question to you is this: Is there a way to convert one of those mini-fridges into a mini-freezer? Or do they make mini-freezers? And if they do, which would be cheaper? I am no "expert" at mechanics, or electronics, but I do like to think i know a bit, and could probably tackle a do-it-yourself job like this. Thanks in advance!

Why do people say .02 cents??? So, what, your opinion is only worth a 50th of a cent?

They're not really common, but yes you can get small mini-freezers. The small square "dorm size" is 1.3 cubic feet.

for around the same price you can get a small chest=type freezer with a lot more space inside, like a 3.5 or 5.0 cubic foot for around $150.

I ordered a 3.5 cubic foot chest freezer from cirtuitcity.com with free shipping, they seem to have all the smaller sizes but only if you order online. About the only size readily available in stores is the 5 cubic foot chest freezer.

Thank you. Size is kind of an issue. I would only need one that could fit 2 to maybe 3 mice, which is why those mini-fridges would work perfectly. I'm talking about the ones that are about a foot high, and about 6 inches wide, with maybe a shelf in the middle. The "6 pack size" ones. I sincerely doubted that i could find a ready-made mini-freezer, so my main focus would be if anybody could tell me if it was possible to convert a mini-fridge to run cooler. If i find out it's possible, i'll look into it further, so any advice would be great. Thanks.

Oh, those tiny things are just coolers and never get cold enough to freeze anything. Why not get a small dorm size freezer and order in bulk?

Or there are the dorm size refrigerators that have a tiny freezer in them, those could hold maybe a dozen or 2.

Those things are really too big. I just have a small room, about 15 feet by 15 feet, which is my bedroom, so it has most of my stuff in it. I really only have room for something, at most, 2 feet wide by maybe 3 feet high, and that would be way bigger that i would need it to be. I would only need something big enough to hold 2-3 mice, so something about the size of a shoe box. Besides, arent those like, expensive?
