Took some pic's of my female Dumeril while working in snake room. She has been on her hot spot constantly for a few months now. She was basking sporadically for at least 4 months, now it's a constant thing. Last copulation was in early February. Any opinions?

She is looking and behaving gravid. It should be noted the two times I bred Brazilian Rainbow Boas if the hot spot went above 84 the female would not bask on spot. Although most data says 90 in certain books, the Dumeril also does not like hot spots above 84-85 degrees. When hot spot gets hotter females temp is kept at about 83-84 by her own thermoregulation. She will lay just off the spot. Hot spot kept at 84'ish she never really leaves it at all. Entire enclosure sometimes hits 86-87 during day for a few hours as well. So I have believed she has been gravid for awhile now, but according to last copulation date it could be as late as October before she does something. This snake is 19 years old, perhaps even 20. 19 for sure. Male same age. She has been inverted on many occasions over the past several months as well, now she just rest normally on the hot spot, she looks like she is gunna burst and I would think she is uncomfortable by looking at her as well. She still eats as well. I feed her small rats. 1 per feeding. Hate to see her push a puppy out early.

I figure she knows better then all the books, but I am still careful.

I once fell from a 50' tree with many branches that slowed my decent and landed directly on my back on a large rock...

Maybe she is just bloated from eating all the Mini-Wheats???

Seriously, I have no clue, but I wish you luck, hope this old gal has a nice litter for you!

Thanks,
Ed

Frank,
...She sounds like she is gravid or at least she thinks she is gravid. But, when I kept Dums they engaged in lots of recreational sex and never produced any babies. So what do I know?
Good luck,
Jeff

best kind no ? well not if you are talking Dumerils hehe.

Time will tell, I am a pretty lucky guy though.

Also, What months do most of your Rainbows breed ?

As in time slot, for me if raised from neonates would be Nov-Feb.

Yours ? This could be important to me lol.
