I have a 8ft female and a 7ft guyana male housed together in a 5ftx2ft wooden enclosure. They have been going at it for like a week.. I'm new to breeding and i was wondering if i should seperate them. The female is very aggresive, and tries to bite anytime i try to pick her up... I've tried to feed her frozen and freshly killed rats and she doesn't eat... Anyone who could help would be great..ALso she always spills the water bowl..

Also on a second note... I have a B&W tegu in a wooden tank above them and two red group retails above the tegu in a vision cage. I just noticed little white bugs all over the bark in my tegu's tank. Now they are crawling on top of my Boa cages below.. I don't think they're mites but i could be wrong.

PLEASE IF ANYONE COULD HELP WITH EITHER PROBLEM .....

Thanks.

1.1 Red Group redtails
1.0 B&W TEGU
1.1 Guyana Red Tails

By going at it, I'm assuming you are talking about courting. Dont separate them until they have copulated, and the female ovulates. Courting can go on for over a month before copulation, & ovulation takes place so a week is most likely way too soon to separate. If you look at your boas every day there is no way you can miss the females ovulation, when she does she will look like she swallowed a full sized rabbit. Usually females shed a couple weeks after that, so thats when you should take the male out. Make sure to have a thermal gradient of arround 82f (cool end),& 92f (hot spot at surface) while she is gravid, actually thats a pretty good temp range for most of the year.

I dont know what the little white bugs are, but I know what you are talking about. They seem to come out of bark bedding when it gets wet. I dont think they hurt the animals in any way, but if they bother you I would switch to newspaper, or aspen as a substrate.

I hope that helps a little. O-ya, if you end up with baby boas do yourself a favor and buy plastic cages with some of the money you make off of them, plastic is way easier to clean then wood.

Good luck,
D.E.

We had a prob with those bugs too...we washed the bark in plain hot water then baked it in the oven at 300 degrees for bout 20 min...no more bugs

not a big deal but can look gross and maybe bug your pets if they are all over. if its wood lice then they bail off the wood and on to the animal if the bedding is too wet. if it is something else they may be eating poo in the cage. keep a clean cage and freeze problem bedding before you use it
