Sounds pretty right for you. A single White's can fit very comfy in a 20 gallon, especially if it is high. Yes,they are vocal,if it is a male. My male calls atleast twice a day. It is a loud, loud RAWK RAWK RAWK. Kind of thing. The males are smaller then the females,so when you pick one out,if you want a male, dont go for the biggest one you see,as it is likely a female(unless theyre all babies, then you cant tell) Yep,theyre just as squishy and adorable as they look. The smiling face makes you wanna hug them all the time, but you know you can't do that. Depending on where you would get your frog and supplies from, it shouldnt be that expensive.there are ways to be thrifty, ill show you my tricks. First things first,we'll start from the bottom of the tank up. DIRT: Most people say to buy the Bed A Beast(or Eco Earth brand) bricks, which you can put in the wter and it expands 8 times its size. It is coconut fiber, and it really does work awesomely. Depending on wher eyou go it can be somewhat expensive, I wouldn't buy it if it was any higher then say $5.(i know we sell it in my store for 6.99, but i've bought a 3 pack of it for $7 at a reptile show,go figure) if you dont wanna use that. Go to a garden store or even a dollar store(ive done this) and buy some Safe potting soil(make sure it doesnt havethose little styrofoam balls in it) by safe,I mean no chemicals or fertilizers or anything. Even ask a neighbor if you have to(ive even done that).ok,dirt is covered. now for the Water Bowl. In the stores they sell those rock looking water bowls. If you ask me I think they are expensive, but again, depends on where you go. You'll need one big enough for the white's to comfortably sit in, but so the water only coveres his back legs. You can buy one of those for like $5 or use like a tupperwear lid or a lid of some sort.Which is free, cant beat free. Then theres branches. Whites are big and fat,so they need some thick, sturdy logs to sit on. Go to a park or even in your yard or wherever and look for for something you think would be suitable. Was it down REALLY well with HOT water. even a little tiny bit of bleach wouldnt kill it.This is to kill all the bugs and mold and all that could be growing on it. Then leave it out in the sun for a day or two,and let it bake. Or even bake it in the oven. again,FREE. The pet store ones are much too expensive. ok,now, plants. you can have a natural vivarium or go with a low maintainence tank, PLants, take them from your mom! Ha,or you can usually find them anywhere. even in the supermarket you can find plants. Theyre relatively cheap, about $3 a piece. Make sure you get some sturdy, saf eones, theres lists around everywhere for tixic and non-toxic plants. But it sound sliek you wanna go with fake stuff. Theyre about $5 a piece in the stores. I even go to dollar stores to get my plants( look in the fake flower stuff) Get a few of the kind that can suction cup on the wall, because the frog will probably sleep under those. Get liek 2 or 3 of them, if you want to you can get the kind to put on the ground, i recommend the dollar store kinds for that. ok,so so far your tanks almost done, but you need lighting. Not only does this produce a natural simulation of daytime/nighttime for the frog,it helps with heat, and growth of plants(if you want live plants) frogs are like other reptiles in that they are cold blooded. They rely on outside sources to heat their bodies up,not like our bodies produce their own heat) so youll need a good lighting system. You can either get those dome lamps, which are less expensive,or one of the fish tank looking hood ones. Up to you which. The domes are usually about $13,the fish ones are liek $30. The bulbs arent cheap as well. Id recommend for a 20 gallon tank, maybe a 40 watt Daylight Blue bulb. Daylight looks nicer if you ask me,ans 40 watts should be enough heat for the winter. i usually dont turn my lights on in the summer, unless the AC is on.NO UTH is needed. The lamp is just enough. If you dont have a screen lid, pick one of those up,theyre about $10. Very much needed. You need temp and humidity guages too. I think flukers has the two that come together for about $15. Important. You want the tank to have about 50-60% humidity(achieved by misting the tank thoroughly 2 times a day) and a daytime temperature of about 80-85 and a nightime drop to 72-76 degrees F. Get a spray bottle for misting, some Repti-cal for cricket dusting and youre all set. Feed the frog about 4 crickets every other day or every two days, depending on the age. If its a baby feed it as many small crickets as it wants every night.Good luck, let me knwo what happens. Sorry for the long post.
