Update on my fasciata

mizar 21 Aug 28, 2003 06:49 AM

Hi its been a while since i've been on this forum. I just want to give a small update on my snake for those who might want to know

He's growing steady, i try to feed him three to two times a week. Alternating between pinkie and trout piece with a little calcium and vitamin sprinkle. (vitamin only once per month). He is a little shy, not very active in his enclosure (for what we know, maybe when we aint looking, lol). Very active when we handle him, and absolutely no aggressive behavior yet.

Any comment on this ?

Sounds like your snake is doing just fine. What are you using for a heat source? I find my snakes are much more visible in their enclosures when given an overhead basking lamp for about 6 hours per day. The watersnakes I have on undertank heating pads seem to stay buried in the substrate most of the time.

Your snake must be growing like a weed with all that food!

I use a normal 40 watt bulb, cause the heat was pretty up this summer but i'll soon switch to a 60 watt basking light. I dont have a under tank heat source and i dont plan to have one unless you think that's absolutely necessary. You think i over feed him ? Twice or thrice a week ?

A 40-watt basking lamp should be fine. I don't think you are necessarily overfeeding your snake, as long as he's putting all that food towards growth. If you notice him beginning to grow wider rather than longer, you may consider slowing down the meals. I think frequent small meals are the best as the snake never has to waste energy stopping and starting its digestive systems.
