My "other" boa breeding season...

rainbowsrus Mar 04, 2008 12:41 PM

My other boas (Brazilian Rainbow Boas) are just coming into their breeding season and things are heating up. Starting to see the activity I've been waiting for. Not just sperm plugs left laying around but actual tail wraps.....

This is Wilma and Fred on leap day (their third witnessed copulation) They are a proven pair that produces some amazing BRB's

Not to be outdone, Clover was being bred by Diablo Monday evening. My first witnessed breeding between two snakes I produced. (Clover in 2001 and Diablo in 2005) How cool is that??

And then this morning, I saw Tink being bred by Phoenix. My second witnessed breeding between two snakes I produced, (Both in 2005) still way cool!!

BRB's are where I "cut my teeth" on snake breeding.

Looks like BCI breeding season is winding down as I have not seen any breeding activity with them in quite some time. I believe they are basically done and those females that are not gravid will not be getting gravid until next year. I have one more POS due in the next few days, that'll make 6 clear OV/POS/Gravid females. Also a few others that may be gravid but flunked breeding 101 so didn't get all the timing and/or signs right. Of course there's only one sign that really counts....baby slime!!!

Hope everyones year is going great for them, so far so good on mine!! Damn this is fun!!!!

He's left some sperm plugs and saw him attempting to wrap on a female that was not yet ready. I have not seen any actual tail wraps - yet!!!

I'm keeping my fingers crossed that he will not only breed for you, but prove genentic.

The potential of that project is so huge.

Good luck buddy.

you breed in fish bowls? i geuss you put them ontop of eachother, theyre bound to copulate. ive never seen this. please elaborate.

rainbowsrus Mar 04, 2008 10:30 PM

LOL, BRB's love water, love to soak and are really into water sex. Quite often they will breed in the water bowl. Does make it easy for pics as you can pull the whole bowl out of the cage for a quick photo shoot without even disturbing the action. I like the fishbowls as they have large surface area for humidity and glass is easy to clean.

My cages....
